France Goes to Final... and Portugal Wins Best Diving Performance

A huge celebration in the streets here following France's victory over Portugal at the World Cup thanks to Zidane's penalty kick. He sent the ball just inside the post, with goalkeeper diving to his right but just unable to get a hand on it.
The match was not bad and, despite what some commentators might say, it was much more intense than the other semi-final, between Germany and Italy last night.
The only problem I had was with
the constant theatrical diving and flopping of the Portuguese players. As much as the World Cup is the greatest sporting event around, that is really detestable. From what I have seen in this World Cup, the Portuguese have deserved the prize for best performance in a Diving Film. Luckily, most of the times, the referee didn't buy it.

Sunday is the big day - the World Cup's final between France and Italy.

In the meantime, it's already 1:30 am and the blaring horns, whistles and cheers continue to resound all around Paris....
