Teachers, one hand on the textbook and the other on the gun!

In the wake of the recent school shootings Frank Lasee, a Republican Congressman from Madison, Wisconsin said he will introduce legislation to allow school teachers to carry guns in schools:

"To make our schools safe for our students to learn, all options should be on the table. It might not be politically correct but it has worked effectively in other countries. Israel and Thailand have well trained teachers carrying weapons and keeping their children safe from harm. It can work in Wisconsin."
In Thailand, some teachers carry weapons for self-defence against Muslim separatists who view them as part of the government. In Israel, teachers are not allowed to carry weapons in school but security guards at the entrances are armed.

Israel and Thailand.... wow, those are some models of peaceful democratic countries! One is under military ruling after a coup and the other just had a war with its neighboring country.

Apparently, this idea has caused negative reactions.... oh really?! Must be that "darn liberal political correctness again"

Deciding to teach teachers have in mind to make young people more educated and not to play cow-boys.
Of course murders -even one- is unbearable and unacceptable. But does the number justify to make teachers carry guns ? I wonder...
Teachers have a lot to do to keep students concentrated and interested all day long. How will they manage studing and watch ? How students will think of studying watching both a board and a gun ? In those conditions maybe some of them will feel insecure when they shouldn’t. Of course it may happen that in the long run the gun will be considered as something natural, may be... but is it a good thing ?
Other than that, accidents are possible. Let’s suppose that a teacher has to fire and fails his target hurting a child. How will he support it till the end of his life ? I prefer not to think of it.

BTW, students should demonstrate to have guns to fire boring teachers ;-)
