The French ain't so bad in sports.

Now, as a Frenchman, I am very disappointed with the World Cup of course but it's only sports after all and as we said earlier, there’s always something to learn from losing. Besides, France has had a pretty good week-end, with a great tennis champion who won the tournament in Wimbledon – even though people and the media gave little notice, too preoccupied they were with the World Cup.

That was pretty remarkable though. Last time, Amelie Mauresmo and Justine Henin-Hardenne met, the match ended when Henin-Hardenne retiring because of stomach pain, handing the Frenchwoman her first major title, so there was some feeling of an unfinished business there. Mauresmo’s win also showed she has finally been able to overcome her nerves which had been her downfall in previous years.

So this year is a good year for her, with her win of her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and now Wimbledon.

Amelie Mauresmo is said to be a great woman, although, one must say, however rude it is, her looks don’t quite match your idea of a petite French woman as if her name didn't quite fit our image of an Amelie.

In fact, when you see pictures like this one, you wonder if she’s a woman at all.

I think it's comments like your last line that get people head-butted in the chest.

Yes, I know. But sometimes, it just feels like you can't help it. Indulge me! I might add I would be afraid of being head-butted by her! ;-)
