Yesterday, French President announced the rewriting of the controversial law that encourages schools to paint a positive picture of its colonial past in their history lessons. It is about time he finally realized that "Laws are not meant to write history," as he said and that "The writing of history is for historians." He should have probably used his brand new glasses to read it more carefully when he signed it. It is also worth noting that his own majority party refused to reconsider the law last November. Chirac also said he will introduce a national day of remembrance for slavery (abolished in 1848)...
I’m not a big fan of French Socialist Jack Lang but I share his (somewhat poetic)view that Chirac resembles A last wave coming to die on the shore!
